Electric vehicles and charging points >

The future's here and it's electric! With more and more petrol and diesel vehicles being changed for electric ones, we are doing lots across Northumberland to build electric charging capacity and infrastructure. Our council chargers have a tariff of 57p per kwh for the 11 kW and 22 kW chargers and 65 p per kwh for the 50 kW chargers.

How to charge your electric vehicle in Northumberland...

Northumberland County Council has scores of EV charging points dotted around the county and they're pretty simple to use. Here's a quick reminder of what you need to do to keep your EV on the move.

Off-street EV charging

If you have access to off-street parking, you may be eligible for a government grant for a home EV charger.

The EV chargepoint grant provides a 75% contribution to the cost of one chargepoint including installation. Depending on whether you are a landlord or rent a property, different applying conditions need to be meet.

On-street EV charging

We want to hear from residents (who don’t have off-street parking) about where on-street EV charge points are needed. Suggest a location near your home to help inform us of where demand is greatest.

Requests cannot be responded to individually and there is no guarantee that a charger will be installed. It will, however, help us to better understand where EV chargers may be needed.

Chargers for business

If you are a business, you may be eligible for a government grant for workplace EV chargers. The Workplace Charging Scheme is a voucher-based scheme designed to provide eligible applicants with support towards the upfront costs of EV charge points. The contribution is limited to the 75% of purchase and installation costs, up to a maximum of £350 for each socket, up to a maximum of 40 across all sites for each business that applies.
