Love Parks Week celebrates the county’s fantastic green spaces

This Love Parks Week (24 July to 2 August), the County Council is encouraging people of all ages to enjoy and celebrate the wealth of outdoor spaces the county has to offer. 

Northumberland is home to some of the UK's most beautiful and accessible parks and green spaces - many within easy reach by foot, bike, bus, or train. 

The County Council owns and runs its parks, supported by dedicated staff and teams of volunteers and supporters. 

Earlier this month, 14 Northumberland parks were yet again awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award, with two more receiving Green Flag Community Awards recognising them as some of the best parks in the country. 

And work continues throughout the year to keep them in good condition and welcoming to visitors – with new developments such as an improved and expanded visitor centre and cafe at Plessey Woods, alongside new climbing boulders just waiting to be explored. 

Councillor John Riddle, Cabinet Member for Environment and Rural, said: "Love Parks Week is another opportunity to celebrate the fantastic green spaces that make Northumberland so special. 

“it’s also time to pay tribute to and reflect on the great work carried out by all the volunteers and staff who maintain and enhance these valuable green spaces. 

"This summer we’re encouraging everyone to spend more time outdoors, whether it's a walk in a local park, a picnic with the family, or joining a Saturday morning Parkrun. 

“With the summer holidays in full swing, it's also a great way to get kids out and about, enjoying fresh air and fun activities without spending a fortune. These Parks are everyone’s to enjoy and are really important to us, and mark Northumberland as a very special place to live."
