Northumberland County Council is supporting Green Careers Week (4 – 9 November) as part of its net zero ambitions and ongoing commitment to building a greener, more sustainable future.

Through its Work Smart Live Well initiative, the Council will be holding a session focused on green careers on Tuesday 4 November 9.30am - 13.00pm at Cramlington Community Hub. The session will provide comprehensive support for residents seeking employment, offering career guidance, skill development opportunities and wellbeing advice from local organisations.

Residents are encouraged to take part, learn more about green job opportunities, and explore how they can contribute to a sustainable future.

Cllr Glen Sanderson, Leader of Northumberland County Council and Cabinet Member for Climate Change said: “We are excited to support Green Careers Week as part of our ongoing efforts through the Work Smart Live Well initiative.

“As we transition towards a greener future, the demand for skilled professionals in renewable energy, sustainable construction, and environmental management will continue to rise.

Northumberland is well-positioned to be a leader in this space, and we want to ensure that our residents are prepared to take full advantage of these opportunities.”

The green economy is rapidly growing, with sectors such as renewable energy, sustainable construction, conservation, and eco-friendly agriculture offering dynamic career paths.

Cllr Wendy Pattison, Cabinet Member for Adult Wellbeing, added: “Our goal is not only to provide career opportunities but to improve overall quality of life for our residents.

“Through the Work Smart Live Well program, we aim to inspire people of all ages to pursue careers that contribute to both personal well-being and the local economy.”
