Penultimate station opens on the Northumberland Line
The penultimate station to be completed on the Northumberland Line has been officially opened. The first train rolled into the new station at Northumberland Park near Backworth in North Tyneside shortly after 8am on Sunday, February 22nd, opening up a new era of transport connectivity for the region. Funding for local environmental initiatives
Northumberland County Council is offering funding from a pot of £50,000 for projects aiming to help the environment. Up to £5,000 is available from the Council’s Environment and Climate Fund to support community initiatives such as reducing emissions, enhancing energy efficiency, educating and engaging the local community, and promoting waste reduction through reducing, reusing and recycling. Pupils celebrate International Walk to School Month
Pupils across Northumberland have been taking part in International Walk to School Month, with over 6,000 pupils from 37 schools walking, cycling or scooting to school. Extra carriages on Northumberland Line welcomed
The Council has welcomed extra carriages on a number of peak time trains on the Northumberland Line. The rail project has been a phenomenal success, with around 700,000 passenger journeys already made since the line opened in December 2024. The weekly passenger numbers are set to go higher with the opening of the fourth station – Blyth Bebside, on Sunday, October 19th – with the remaining two stations at Bedlington and Northumberland Park due to open in the coming months.

Further funding boost for Northumberland Line
A brand new station on the Northumberland Line will be completed as planned after funding was agreed by the North East Combined Authority. Major milestone marked as half a million journeys are made on the Northumberland Line
500,000 passengers have now travelled on the Northumberland Line since it opened, train operator Northern has announced.
