Northumberland County Council has won two awards for its unwavering commitment to energy improvements for residents.
At the North East Regional Energy Efficiency Awards, the council picked up the Local Authority Body of the Year award for the second year in a row after being nominated by delivery partners Next Energy Solutions Limited and received the Regional Vulnerable Customer Support Organisation of the Year award for the third year in a row.
The council was also highly commended in the Regional Large Scale Project (>250K) of the Year.
Since 2025, the council’s Warmer Homes Team, in collaboration with Safe and Resilient Communities, has helped over 1,210 residents by installing energy improvement measures in over 530 properties and giving detailed in-person energy advice to over 680 residents, ensuring they have safe heating and insulation to prevent cold-related health risks.
Cllr Colin Horncastle, Cabinet Member for Housing and Planning at Northumberland County Council, said: “This is fantastic news. As a council we have a duty of care for our residents, and I am incredibly proud of the teams' hard work in ensuring our most vulnerable people receive this vital support.
“Having a safe and warm space is not a nice to have, it is a necessity for everyone to live a happy and healthy life. This award is a testament to the teams’ dedication in improving the lives of our residents.”
The awards recognise the council’s work in delivering projects that help and target support for households at risk of, or in, fuel poverty through the Government funded, Household Support Fund, Warm Homes (Social Housing Fund and Local Grant) schemes, the Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) and Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) to homes with an EPC of D or below.
The Regional Energy Efficiency Awards recognises achievements in the domestic energy sector which help to save energy, improve health through warmth and reducing damp and mould risks, help the environment, and drive down our energy bills.
