A major £1.92 million refurbishment project in Blyth is now complete, providing warmer and more affordable living conditions for residents of Bowes Street and Bowes Court.

The scheme, funded by UK Government and Northumberland County Council is part of the wider £95m Energising Blyth programme, and saw 72 homes undergo extensive upgrades to improve energy performance.

Key improvements included the installation of new roof coverings with integrated solar PV panels, new cavity, wall and loft insulation, and advanced ventilation systems.

Northumberland County Councillor Colin Horncastle, cabinet member for Housing said: “These were old properties and this work has eradicated damp and condensation build-up, greatly improving their quality, comfort, and appearance.

“Residents living in them will now benefit from reduced energy consumption and crucially, lower fuel bills.

“The work has also supported the council’s wider carbon reduction objectives, leading to environmental benefits for the community too.”

The project is funded by UK Government and Northumberland County Council and is part of the £95m Energising Blyth Regeneration Programme to grow, renew and connect the town.

Croft Ward County Councillor Mark Peart added: “These old properties were badly in need of upgrading.  I am sure these improvements will have a life-changing impact on the residents living in them.  They will also be warmer, more energy efficient and affordable to live in.”

All upgrades were completed in full compliance with the British Standard for energy efficiency improvements.

The Energising Blyth programme is delivered by Northumberland County Council with funding support from UK Government. Northumberland County Council and the North East Combined Authority.
