Coastline protection schemes near completion

Two Northumberland villages are being protected from coastal erosion as Council schemes near completion.
Creswell and Beadnell are both benefitting from coastal defence schemes which are helping to protect the villages and key roads from wave action and storm damage.
In Creswell, the Cresswell Coastal Road Slope Management Scheme is now complete which has seen the stabilising of the slope next to the road near Golden Sands Holiday Park, the installation of new rock armour along the shoreline as well as repairs and improvements to roadside drainage.
Work on the Beadnell Coastal Protection Scheme remains on schedule and will see the repairing and strengthening of 195 metres of existing seawall along Harbour Road. This aims to safeguard the road which is the main route through the village to the harbour, beach, caravan parks and over 200 residential properties.
Careful dismantling and repair works have been carried out along 125 metres of the parapet wall on the landward side as well as repointing and strengthening works to key areas.
Planning has been in place to minimise disruption where possible, although temporary traffic management will remain in place until the works are fully completed.
Councillor John Riddle, Cabinet Member for Rural and Environment at the County Council, said: “I am pleased to see these schemes near completion which will bring many benefits to our coastal communities.
"It is crucial we protect our beautiful coastal villages for both residents and visitors to enjoy for years to come.
“These schemes have been carefully planned to minimise impacts on the shoreline and wildlife while maintaining public access.
"We appreciate this can be a busy time for our coastal areas and would like to thank the public for their patience while the works have been taking place."
