Residents and drivers are being advised of the latest works to be taking place in Blyth in connection with the Northumberland Line.
The next works on the A1061 will be to divert a water main to allow Newsham Station road layout changes to take place in due course.
These are set to start on 2nd October for four weeks and are expected to involve:
two weeks of three-way traffic lights on the A1061, at the junction of Sandringham Drive and to the west of Sandringham Drive
one week of stop and go traffic management on the A1061 next to the Newsham level crossing
one week of three-way traffic lights on the A1061 at the junction of Sandringham Drive and to the west of Sandringham Drive
The traffic lights will be in place 24 hours a day. Three-way traffic lights are needed because of the proximity of the works to the existing permanent lights at Sandringham Drive, which the temporary lights will replace. The different locations and time periods are due to the different aspects of work which need to be carried out. Cabinet Member for Roads and Highways at Northumberland County Council, Councillor John Riddle, said: “This is a major infrastructure project which will bring huge long-term benefits to local communities and the wider region, and we thank people in advance for their patience while these essential works are carried out. “We appreciate that traffic lights on this busy road will be disruptive, but fundamentally the contractors need to close one lane of the road for the works to be carried out. “Throughout these works we’ll monitor the traffic impacts to see if changes can be made to the contractor’s traffic management to lessen the impact on traffic.” Following the Northumbrian Water works, there are further extensive works that will need to be carried out which will involve traffic management on the A1061 around the Newsham Station site. These will be carried out by Morgan Sindall, who are building the Northumberland Line stations. Details of the traffic management arrangements for these works will be publicised in due course.
